Piedmontese Cow Piedmontese Bull
Piedmontese Traits:
Desirable size (grown bulls average 1,800 lbs. and cows 1,300 lbs.) with average height and above average length.
Cattle are docile.
Easy calving (calves are born without any sign of heavy muscling. Heavy muscling becomes evident after a few weeks of age).
Dark skin pigmentation, black eyes, and black hooves provide disease resistance.
Milking ability (this breed is used for both beef and milk production in Italy).
Desirable udder size is maintained over cow's life.
Fertility (Bulls and heifers mature at a very early age).
Adapt to a wide range of climates (possess sweat glands for hot climates and hollow hair for insulation in cold climates).
Bulls are clean sheathed and are well balanced with their weight distributed evenly over their bodies (very important for breeding longevity as most bulls of other breeds carry too much weight in the front portion of their bodies which can shorten breeding life).
Especially valuable in the feedlot because their genetic makeup allows them to be fed to desired slaughter weights without putting on excess fat. Their feed conversion is consistently higher than what is considered normal for the beef industry.
