The Story at Sandies Creek Farm

Sandies Creek Farm, which is named after the body of water that winds through the farm, is located near Nixon, Texas about 55 miles southeast of San Antonio. Since 1941 Sandies Creek Farm has raised various breeds of cattle with the ultimate goal of producing one breed that satisfies both the consumer and the cattleman. In 1985 this goal was reached when the Piedmontese cattle breed was introduced to Sandies Creek Farm. Since this breeds introduction the quality of cattle being produced has dramatically improved.

Full blood and purebred Piedmontese are being raised naturally and with an embryo program in order to supply the seedstock producer with quality animals and to provide the commercial cattleman with Piedmontese bulls for breeding to commercial cows. In addition, Piedmontese bulls are being used with commercial cows with very remarkable results. Heavier weaning weights are being achieved with the leaner and more muscular Piedmontese cross calves and full blood calves simply because muscle weighs more than fat. The birth weights of the Piedmontese crossbred calves have averaged 70 pounds, and the birth weights of the full blood calves have averaged 78 pounds.

Sandies Creek Farm offers Piedmontese cattle for sale that meet the needs of the seedstock producer and the commercial cattleman. Registered Piedmontese cattle are being raised with an emphasis on developing a quality herd of Piedmontese cattle. With selective breeding accomplished with an aggressive embryo program, a select group of full blood, purebred and percentage Piedmontese can now be offered for sale to the seedstock producer. In addition to producing cattle for the seedstock producer, Sandies Creek Farm offers the commercial cattleman a large selection of full blood bulls along with purebred and percentage bulls which carry two copies of the myostatin allele gene (the gene that produces a superior carcass). Sandies Creek Farm is devoted to producing Piedmontese bulls for the commercial cattleman who wishes to gain a market advantage with crossbred Piedmontese at his/her local market or who wishes to raise crossbred Piedmontese calves to receive a premium over market price through the certified Piedmontese meat program.
